Advances in the Noninvasive Diagnosis of Dry Eye Disease

چکیده

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial that represents one of the most common ophthalmologic conditions encountered in everyday clinical practice. Traditional diagnostic tests for DED, such as subjective questionnaires, tear film break-up time and Schirmer test, are often associated with poor reproducibility reliability, which make diagnosis, follow-up, management challenging. New advances imaging technologies enable objective reproducible measurements DED parameters, thus making diagnosis multimodal imaging-based process. The aim this review to summarize all current emerging tools available monitoring non-invasive breakup time, thermography, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, meibography, interferometry, vivo confocal microscopy, quality assessment. Although there not gold standard technique, new multi-imaging-integrated devices precious instruments help clinicians better cope complexity DED.

Scabies: Advances in Noninvasive Diagnosis

Scabies is a common, highly contagious skin parasitosis caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Early identification and prompt treatment of infested subjects is essential, as missed diagnosis may result in outbreaks, considerable morbidity, and significantly increased economic burden. The standard diagnostic technique consists of mites' identification by microscopic examination of scales obt...

Dry eye diagnosis.

PURPOSE To determine the most effective objective tests, applied singly or in combination in the diagnosis of dry eye disease. METHODS Two groups of subjects--41 with dry eye and 32 with no ocular surface disease--had symptoms, tear film quality, evaporation, tear turnover rate (TTR), volume and osmolarity, and meibomian gland dropout score assessed. RESULTS The subjects with dry eye had TT...

Diagnosis of dry eye disease and emerging technologies

Dry eye is one of the most commonly encountered problems in ophthalmology. Signs can include punctate epithelial erosions, hyperemia, low tear lakes, rapid tear break-up time, and meibomian gland disease. Current methods of diagnosis include a slit-lamp examination with and without different stains, including fluorescein, rose bengal, and lissamine green. Other methods are the Schirmer test, te...

The challenge of dry eye diagnosis

The currently available methods for the diagnosis of dry eye are still far from being perfect for a variety of reasons. This review attempts to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of both traditional tests (such as Schirmer's test, break-up time and ocular surface staining) and innovative noninvasive procedures, including tear meniscus height measurement, corneal topography, functional v...
